Hard work

Donn Janes was born one of 5 children raised by a single parent. His father left when Donn was five, and his mother had to go to work to survive. Donn understands the rewards of hard work. Someone had to stand up for the family, and Donn felt the need to help out, so as a youth he did odd jobs such as selling greeting cards, pulling weeds, and taking a paper route. He got his first regular job at 13, working for an ice cream store. In high school, he waited tables in a local restaurant.

Service

As an adult, Donn washed cars at a Chevrolet Dealership and worked his way up to becoming a mechanic. A fellow mechanic convinced Donn that he should join the Navy so he could advance his career, and in 1986 he did just that. He graduated at the top of his class and was promoted to E-4, a high entry rank. Donn chose to serve on the USS La Salle, a large naval vessel, and was deployed to the Persian Gulf. Donn and his fellow crew members of the La Salle came to the aide of the USS Stark during his service in the Persian Gulf when it was attacked by an Iraqi F-1 aircraft with two Exocet sea skimming missiles.

Family

Donn met his wife, Candace, while they were both stationed in Pensacola Florida. The two have had three beautiful children, Rachael, David and Daniel. Donn was Honorably Discharged from the Navy in 1989, but Candace still proudly serves today. The Janes' family was transferred to several Naval Duty Stations' as part of their service to our country before they finally landed in Tennessee, the place they now call home. The Janes' fell instantly in love with rural Brighton, and decided that it would be a great place to raise a family, so they purchased a home there. The Janes' children have attended Brighton Public Schools, and their oldest, Rachael, recently graduated from Brighton High School.

Community

Donn is active in his local community; showing concern for local youth by coaching basketball for the Brighton Sports Commission for three years, and running the local sports league for the 2008-2009 season. He has also been an assistant baseball coach for his son's teams in Brighton and in Munford. Donn combines his love of athletics and his urgent need to help other people, by running 5k's for charitable events such as St. Jude, the Arthritis Foundation, and Easter Seals.

Leadership

Donn currently serves as a Network Engineering Consultant for Hilton Hotels Corporation, in Memphis Tennessee. He previously served in a capacity of Manager of Enterprise Networks for ACH Food Corporation in Cordova, Tennessee. Donn is not a career politician, but has worked as a government consultant managing projects for the Department of Energy, the Department of Justice, the National Nuclear Security Agency and the US Army's Special Operations Command. Each job has allowed his success to increase incrementally, and has taught him how to be a voice for many.

Now, Donn Janes is concerned for America and cares for Tennessee, so this time he stands up not just for his family, but for yours. Rest assured, Donn will work hard as your Representative in service to your family and our communities, utilizing his skills as a father, leader, mentor, team and consensus builder, for Tennessee's 8th District in Congress in 2010.
